Ok,I made the leap. I registered Quest. When I installed the Quest Pro upgrade I get an error message when I fire up my QDK editor program. The message reads "An error occurred when load QDKERR.DAT. Please check that the file"
HUH?!?
I then reinstalled the full version of Quest 2.17 again, then qeust pro. It works now,but the same error message still pops up.

It sounds like QDKERR.DAT is not in the same directory as QDK, or has been removed. Make sure you apply the Quest Pro upgrade to the same directory as Quest, otherwise necessary files such as QDKERR.DAT won't be present where QDK thinks they should be.
