MagicSword Part 1 is now finished and up for download on my site: http://blakkfire.homestead.com/Quest.html I've spent a lot of time making this RPG, so please download it, play it, and maybe leave some feedback about it here :) |

I just downloaded it, so I'm about to play it. I'm glad some people are starting to post their games now! Anyway, I noticed the download is very small which is both GOOD and BAD. Good because I don't have to wait an hour, and kinda bad because that means there's not going to be sound or MIDI music. Though that doesn't really matter, I'm just a person who loves music to set the atmosphere of an area. Well, doesn't matter. I'm sure it'll be a good game. I'll post my feedback later on after I get into the game. |

I am now at Fennats Square in your game, and here are my thoughts: It is actually a pretty good game that's very deep. You created the medieval world and characters very well as I have no trouble imagining what's going on or what I have to do. It is not confusing, either, like a lot of text adventure games that make you walk around aimlessly in a maze of directions. I also added my own battle and village themes to the folder which is a good addition you added to the game (Allowing us to choose our own music). The whole spell casting and battle idea is another cool thing, especially with different types of elemental spells you can use. This game makes me remember the old Final Fantasy days way back then... However, there are some flaws in the game obviously. First of all, I really don't like the battle system very much. It would've been cooler to use a menu-based battle system, and actually use enemy HP that is affected by different types of attacks. I found myself constantly throwing that dagger at the damn sniper, not knowing if I was doing the right thing. Finally, after many tries, I nailed him. Also, it almost seems like the player doesn't have much control over the battles. In the very beginning inside the Academy, for example, I had to fight these enemy replicas, and it just seemed that it was a linear battle (Hit with sword 3 times, he's dead; stuff like that). Not really bad, but could've been improved. Also, the game SO FAR seems a bit linear. Like mentioned above, it's not confusing at all which is a good thing. However, there seems to be only one direction to go the whole way, but maybe that'll change later on. There's really not much of a story which is needed in RPGs, but that's not a big deal. Overall, it's a nice little text game that I think I'll enjoy till the end. Good work. My Score- 6.5/10.0 By the way, a 6.5 isn't that bad coming from me. I'm a very big RPG player who's played the many legendary console RPGs from Squaresoft (Final Fantasy, Chrono Cross, etc.), so I'm always expecting too much from games. This is probably the best text game out of the whole list here at Axe Software from what I've played. |

Thanks Tyrant. I think i have done enemy HP that is affected by different types of attacks for enemys that r more than just simple ones ,like the bosses; Different items do different levels of damage. Also the battles like @ the academy, I was just starting 2 make the battle system, so it was basic then, but develops throughout the game, as i figured out more complex stuff such as random amounts of damage done 2 enemys. |

Also a menu based battle system would have been harder to code, bcoz ud have 2 put 4 each selection if here <...> and the weapon ur using if has <...>, |

Yeah also the game is a bit linear, but I can't think of any particular way 2 change it... maybe sort of side-quests? I could try doing that in Part 2 'groan!' |

If you'd want to make a game less linear (yes, side quests are a cool addition, too), you should have some sort of overworld like other RPGs do. Then, instead of going on one direct path, you could choose where you want to go...a castle, a marsh, a mountain, etc. Then, maybe at a marsh, East would lead to a big fortress, and west would lead to a marsh town, etc. Those are just examples, but it's to show how to make a game less linear. NEway, I got to return to making my game. I can't wait till this thing's released! |

Your game is quite good. I find it interesting, and fun to play. Can you give me some tips on a battle system. I have one, but it takes too long to code it like this. If you could help me a bit with mine, then I can post my source code for everyone to see. However, no one can alter it in any way. Or claim it as their own. Would you help me out a bit? I rate your game 7.5/10. Thanx Pikaflare-- [email protected] |

That's a little too easy. I've figured out a better way to code mine however. I kept using paragraphs for the random attacks I used. Now I use a random sentence, such as You attack the goblin, and severely injure it. After the random sentence, I use a random health decrease. Also, if the player has a certain weapon, another random amount is decreased from the enemy's health. I think you might like to try that way. Give it a try, I'm sure it's a lot easier. It's much more easier than my previous battle system. Why not finish up the game and enter it in the Interactive Fiction Competition 2001? I've been waiting for that to start for monthes! You only need to have drunk the antidote to be able to get into the forest in the first place. The rest is kinda confusing but you'll get there eventually ;) |
