Author Topic:   Runtime error '5'???

Hey, I was just trying to run Magic Sword Pt1 in my Quest 3 (b2) and whenever I try and read the book of spells it comes up with a run time error 5 box.... then shuts down! The same happens when I try and close Quest 3 down, after opening the game!
So with this and the SHELL command error, is it a faulty installation?
Thanx

I had this down on a scrap of paper as something to look at along with the procedure Tyrant posted on the 7th July - it's the same bug. Basically Quest 3.0 Beta 2 dies when you use the wait command or "|w" - it's fixed now.

If you're using Quest 3.0 Beta 2 there's an updated QUEST.EXE in http://www.axeuk.com/quest/beta/patch/q3b093.zip .

As I don't plan on there being any more betas of Quest 3.0, this QUEST.EXE "thinks" it's the final Quest 3.0 (i.e. it doesn't say "beta" on it anywhere).

Incidentally:

* asl-version for this release is 285.
* Can somebody who has been having problems with "shell" try it out on this build please?

...and if you could also try the inventory out. I've run a few simple tests but everything seems to be working fine. Perhaps somebody could send me an ASL file???..

Thanx for the update........

....BUT the shell STILL doesn't work for me, I've just tried a .wav several times, I'm just going to move onto a different file.... maybe even make a new test .asl!!

Maybe it IS my installation..... I'm going to re-install Q2.19, then Q3.0... see if THAT sorts the little bugger out!!!

Thanks for the bug fixes. I, too, am still experiencing problems with the SHELL command, though. It seems to work when the ASL file and the file which is to be shelled are both in the Quest folder. However, when the ASL and shelled file are in a folder other than Quest, it doesn't work. I am able to shell MP3s and SWF flash files (which are pretty much all I tried), but Quest does not shell webpages such as the HELP ones included with the Quest download. Nothing big, but I found that SWF files alone seem to be slow and my sounds are out of sync, but when played as an EXE or part of a webpage, the flash file plays nicely. I don't want to use EXE because, for the same exact movie, an EXE file is almost TWICE as big (memory wise) than SWF.

Hey Alex..

If that patch is build 93 as I suspect - is there a 'registered user's ' version - I have build 91 currently..
