Quest Developer Forum Need information on Quest

Hey I just stumbled across quest and am quite intrested though the site didn't really tell me enough, can someone give me more information, I have recently been using a program called RM2K to make games if you've heard of it make comparisons please. Thanks. |

Well, the biggest difference is: Quest is text game play, RM2k is graphical game play with text speech (like the old snes final fantasy's). There are others - RM2k has WAY more features, built in battle system, exp system, automatic moving NPC's, ect... While Quest is text-based (I say this again because I think it's important), and the game-maker is allowed (hehe - sounds like it's a priveledge...) to create everything. I myself have found RM2k to be a bit confusing in places - and Quest to be rather good in explaining. Computer Whizz |

I forgot to say this: It really depends on what type of game you wish to make, what skill you have, how tollerant you are and/or what point in the game making process you are at. I think of Quest as good for begginners because it doesn't need you to worry about graphics at all - just text. It's good for low-skill (those without alot of programming knowledge) because it has QDK. QDK can be annoying for those with NO programming ability - but then again you can't make a game without some ability. Quest is a good (and I am really going to use it in this way) way of planning a graphical game - seeing how it is going to work, getting the story right, character's ect... RM2k has a good editor/creator in some respects - the map creator is simplistic, easy character creation, automatic battles. But I found it annoying you have a limit on the type of tiles you can use, the battle system is over complicated and to change only one aspect of it you have to program your own - in a very dubious language. It is good for a mid-way point in game creation, or end-point. You can see what the final product is going to look and feel like. The choice is yours. Computer Whizz |
