im dont want no GD trial version for 30 days, i want QUEST 3.03 back!! >:(
ondre posted 28-06-2002 14:02 BST
Xlithan, that is a reason why you should check out beta versions - to see what is wrong with them. If a beta brings a new feature that you outright hate, than you know to not delete the previous version installation file.
Xlithan posted 29-06-2002 21:31 BST
so i made a mistake so wot, lol im making a good game and it will all come to an end if i dont get 3.03 back :'(
ondre posted 30-06-2002 09:08 BST
Alex, put up the 3.03 or remove the 30-day limitation from 3.1
Alex posted 30-06-2002 00:39 BST
I don't see what the problem is - there is a very simple way to have no 30 day limit, and you get QCompile too! See if you can guess what it is! :)
ondre posted 30-06-2002 17:05 BST
Alex, and what if I don't yet make my own money and my benefactor would mind me to spent his money on software? And what if I still would want to make IF using QDK without the need go over the uninstall/clear registry entries/reinstall procedure?
Alex posted 30-06-2002 17:14 BST
Well, in that case, why must I spend my own money on web hosting, and spend my own time programming, so that YOU can make adventure games? That seems a little unfair to me.
Xlithan posted 30-06-2002 18:09 BST
so then stop making Quest programs and stop making site, and stop fishing money out to do it then.
Alex posted 30-06-2002 18:21 BST
Exactly! So the only alternative to that is....

a) How do we pay for quest pro.
b) Is Q3.1 compatible with Q3.03?
c) How easy is it to upgrade Quest pro to future versions of Quest
d) Is any kind of swearing bannable offence or just insulting swearing?

When I get home and no problems arrive, I will put 3.03 up on my site since I was wise enough to keep the installation file.
Alex posted 02-07-2002 00:44 BST
a) http://www.axeuk.com/quest/qreg.htm is the Quest Pro ordering page.
b) Of course! :) New versions are always backwards-compatible with older versions. Quest 3.1 should still play Quest 1.0 games correctly!
c) You get free upgrades to Quest Pro for life when you order!
d) Swearing is not allowed on these forums at all and will result in your post being edited or deleted. In serious or repeated cases I will ban the person responsible from posting at all.
DarkAng3l posted 02-07-2002 01:35 BST
O s**t! Is that f***ing necessary? (Just joking!)
Since I don't own a credit card, how can I pay for quest pro?

I am finished with IF, now it is the composition of music that catches my fancy. So do not await 3.03 on my site, nor my new game. I bid you all an affectionate farewell.

ok i never post anymore but i still read the fourm. and anyone is complaining about quest but hasn't bought it is crazy. it is a really good program. he lets you guy make games, play games on it and you don't have to pay to do that. you use it for free and when you find a bug you post it and he fixes it. if you complain about that ..... well you crazy.

well alex just to let you know i am gona buy quest i got check a week ago and i planing to buy it this week or next.

btw the game i was doing i still got it but i still working on the story line it's perrty good but very long. i gona prog it up here and thinking about pitching it to a freind i got that makes games. latez.

But how does it feel that no matter how good your game is that you make, only a limited amount of people can play it?

You make and release a game trying to get to the widest selection of people available but there're at most 10 people (just to show the gravity...... there *could* be more willing to pay) that can play it. There are those of us too busy to play, or are more on the game making side that don't play it, let's say 30%..... so that's 6/7 people. (just from the fake figure above).

Now I believe some things should be payed for, like QDK, Qcompile, anything that edit's / makes. But Quest, the actual game PLAYER doesn't make OR edit a game..... it simply plays it.

I think Quest should follow many other programs and make the player free (ala Quicktime, Realplayer, Acrobat reader, and there are many more out there) but charge for the makers.

I'm not quite sure I follow what you're saying in your first two paragraphs - anybody can play a game you make in Quest, they just have to download it!

As for what should be payed for - your philosophy is exactly the same as mine. To just play games in Quest, you don't have to pay anything - Quest doesn't expire, and there are no nag screens, just a link on the About window where you can order Quest Pro, which is exactly the same kind of thing that you get if you look at Acrobat Reader.

Now, the Quest download also includes QDK, which has always had a nag screen on it, because it's the editor. As of QDK 3.1 the nag screen has changed somewhat. It used to be that there was always a five second delay before you could start the program. I thought this was probably a little bit too irritiating for people just starting trying out QDK, so I got rid of it, but I've replaced it with wording to the effect that, after 30 days of using QDK, you really ought to pay for it. Now, if you use QDK for more than thirty days, that time delay on the nag screen comes back, and as you use it for longer, the time delay becomes longer, up to a maximum of 99 seconds. But, psst... QDK never actually expires.

So, Quest is free if you just want to play games, and, if you want to make games, you can have the stress-free version of QDK for a nice low price. If you pay for it, that means I'll keep on developing it, fixing those bugs, adding the new features you request etc., plus it means I can still pay the webhosts which means you can still chat in this forum and you can still access the Axe Software website which is nice and fast and has no advertising.

Fair enough isn't it?

Computer Whizz posted 04-07-2002 02:24 BST
I'm sorry Alex, I though that you had to PAY for Quest itself.....

They shouldn't write "Quest" when it's "QDK" so sorry.

Anyone who complains about you charging for any editor *is* crazy....

What is the deal? it doesnt cost that much, stop whining!
Evelsvia posted 21-08-2002 22:58 BST
ok just for the information.....im Xlithan, i got band, but im back, so i just thought yall like to know that..

back to the topic... i dont care how much it costs, i dont care about paying for it. i just dont see why you make a program, then make people pay for it, then suddenly make an update which we dont have to pay for... then just make another update and make us pay for it without even saying anything.

Thraka posted 21-08-2002 23:28 BST
As far as I know the 30 day limitation is just a warning and doesn't cripple the program. *atleast I thought it was*

Still if you're going to use it send the money. It's only $20. Thats a very small amount considering that Warcraft III is $60

If you dont want it, dont complain about it. He's not going to change something just for you!

carlii posted 23-08-2002 16:54 BST
Well I just wait for the 100-something-second countdown to finish for QDK to start. :) hehhehee I don't mind. ;)
