Ill sure miss you... but not jakk (idiot) or Jazz (donkey)... but oh well... I am leaving because I've to go back to old programing.... programing my games in the raw language... and I think I'm cheating using quest or visual basic... I am not Insulting the program or anything, Its just visual basic is simple and I know some java, c, and c++ so bye bye.... Jim Jones |

quote: And? Unless you get VC/VC++/VC# which is cheating like VB. Just because BASIC is simple, doesn't mean it's not powerful. It's VERY powerful. C just gives you the advantage of speed and getting closer to the hardware. Computer Whizz |

Programming is programming whatever the language is - if the language is so-called Turing-complete (certainly VB, C++, C#, Java etc. are, and I think Quest's ASL must be too), ultimately you can do anything with it that you could in anything else (this is on an algorithm level, obviously not on a practical level, as e.g. you can't make a Windows program in Quest). So I don't think there's any such thing as cheating when it comes to programming - there are just different levels of complexity. Now, you might say C++ is harder than VB, or that VB is harder than Quest, but that's not the whole story - Quest makes creating adventure games easy, but if you were to try writing a database with it, you'd find it much harder than you would with VB for example. It's all a matter of the right tool for the right job. If you know Quest's ASL, then that's great - you can use it to write adventure games. But if you want to write some other kinds of program as well from time to time, then definitely, go and learn VB, C++, Java, Perl, whatever will be suitable for your task. But that's no reason to stop using Quest - if you want to write an adventure game, you definitely don't want to make it in C. |

I don't think you are cheating by using quest at all. Afterall there is the ASL. That is a proggramming language and was created for creating adventure games and interactive fiction games. But i agree with Alex, if you are creating other programs or graphics games then you should learn c++, but please keep up work with quest. There are always people leaving but never many joining. So keep up the work with quest and learn the ASL language. Lecture over, lol |
