Hi all....

Really this is just a question for Alex, but all of you can post your veiws as they are all valuable and welcome..... plus I can't stop you ;)

My question is this:
Are you, in any way, against the use of MP3 songs for use in theme songs? I would like to have a song as a "theme song" to my game, but want to know if you dis-aprove.

I'm also going to be nicking some pictures from around the net..... but that isn't the point.

If you use copyrighted MP3s without permission I won't be able to upload your game to the Quest Games Archive. Other than that though there's nothing I can do to stop you!

It might be more fun to create your own theme tune anyway. There are a few bits of free software you can download that will let you knock something up. Check www.modplug.com and www.maz-sound.com .

At some point I hope to add one of ModPlug's OCX or DLL controls to Quest to allow it to play .XM, .IT, .MOD, .S3M files etc., which should be cool - these files can be a lot smaller than equivalent MP3s if the samples used are small enough.

Well, it wouldn't come with the game itself. It would be optional, like all my other goodies. I can't get any original soundtracks and am damned if I am going to pay for something I already have!

I did have noteworthy something or rather, that I used to make midi's with. But it was a bit annoying, and boring, so I un-installed it!
Thanx for the links..... I'll take a look tomorrow.

Why don't you use MIDIs? They are heaps cooler and they are a hundreth of the size! I got a cool program called Melody Maestro and its good for creating stuff like that.

No, don't get me wrong. During the game I expect I'll have many-a tune, some based around the one "song". It's just that I wanted a "song" to go at the end, along with the credits, ect..
Although there isn't much credit-wise :)

hahahaha..... LOL

I'll just have to have a theme "tune" instead :(

And plus I don't wanna be chucked off the net or something just for having one lousy song on there.

My "tune" will have the same tune as the song did, it just wont have the song words.....

umm will you be allowed to do that either?
Computer Whizz posted 30-08-2001 22:59 GMT
Well, I guess so. They don't sue people who have midi's up on sites and things like that!

All it is is the tune, it's like having someone hum it on the street and then suing him/her for copyright, it's a tune for god's sake!! Plus it's not going to be EXACT and I'll make a few varientations anyway..... kinda like FF9 where the same tune was in virtually 99.9999% of the places/rooms you visit, but they're altered instruments.
But I'll only use it in specific places, and one during the credits....

I dunno, but releasing it as part of your game isn't like whistling it on the street...

yeah though change a few notes etc and the instruments so its not an exact copy...
