Hi trying to setup Quest 3.0 pro and Alex's
Alpha QX3 (Questnet server program) with I hope you dont mind some of the games freely downloaded on this site. I've just started to use these nifty programs and donot have at present my own Text adventure game. So to test the server with AOL and its unique way of doing things. Please try to logon with Quest 3.0 pro using this new IP address,
just type this number in the Network Hostname box, leave the port number 10001 and connect ...if you can. But please dont blame if my 2.5yr old son wants to play Pingu, because to keep him quiet I'll agree to anything.
Thanks ..Magehost

Me neither!

.... Alex: While trying to connect I found that the "Connecting to ??.??.??.??:10001" window wouldn't close after 300 presses of cancel. I closed Quest 3.0, thinking this would kill the bugger ------ did it hell!
Could you look into this please?
I'll be testing this out again tomorrow just to make sure it isn't windows getting angry after 9/10 hours :)

Hello thanks for attempting to logon using the IP number given. Obviously it didn't work. Thanks to Alex's suggestion of using NO-IP.com I now have a Permanent Hostname
which should work. Thats if i've set it up ok..a definate learning curve this, frustrating but fun.
The Hostname is ZQUEST.SERVEMP3.com
Thanks

I've never had fast enough reactions to test Cancel on the "Connecting to..." window when testing on my machine. It works OK when it gets to "Waiting for response..." which is what I *still* get when trying zquest.servemp3.com.

OK, the pause happens when Quest tries to automatically resolve the hostname. I've set a property on the SocketWrench control I'm using which turns automatic resolving off... the pause has gone and things seem to be quicker.

Hi Alex, I have been leaving myself logged on via 127.0.0.1 is that ok.
Alex posted 16-09-2001 22:57 GMT
Quest doesn't care what address you use - Quest and QuestNet treat 127.0.0.1 the same as zquest.servemp3.com. It's just that TCP/IP defines 127.0.0.1 to loopback to the local system - but Quest doesn't care about that. So leaving yourself logged on via 127.0.0.1 won't make any difference at all - to QuestNet, you're just another player.
