Ummmm, I was fooling around with QDK today - making some object's and giving them aliases when I noticed that when the objects have a colour control (eg |cl) they display alright in the main window but come up with the |cl in the object list box to the right.

In a future version I think you should go through and remove this before adding the alias to the listbox - or is there another way of doing this (colouring names)?

I am colouring different things different colours you see, so if it was a flame, you'd have it red, or if it were an icecube I could colour it blue....

I also think that having text colour in the list wouldn't be too bad either. Then you could colour the types (so different colour rocks, ect...).

Just a thought!

Er, you don't want to go around giving objects aliases that have colour codes in them. The alias is the name that the player has to use to refer to the object, don't forget, and so they would have to type the colour code as well!

A much better solution is to use a colour code in your prefix and suffix - |cl in the prefix, then |cb in the suffix for example. That will colour everything nicely, the objects will have sensible names, and they'll display properly everywhere they go. Beautiful!

I was thinking about doing that - but I thought it might have some error's in refering to it like that....

Do you have any thoughts on the list colour idea?

There shouldn't be any problem in using colour codes in prefixes and suffixes, as these are for display purposes only.

As for colours in the object list, that would be a right pain to implement and would look absolutely disgusting :)

Breathing a HUGE sigh of relief that Alex has demonstrated restraint in the name of good taste...

Is there a guide to using Colours in Quest, in the help file? If there isn't, you guys have to explain to me how to use them! I remember typing in colours in Quest(QDK)2 a long time ago; copying someelse's code!

Yep, just fire up the help file and then go to:

ASL Reference > How To... > Format Text

Or just go here:
